Best weekend destination in Europe? Berlin gets my vote.  History, culture, shopping, fun nights - it was a busy 48 hours!

We stayed at the fabulous Ackselhaus in Mitte, which was perfect. Funky rooms in an old Berlin town house, complete with a pink walled courtyard.

I wish I owned this bike....

We found a fantastic 'vintage' store near Rosa Luxembourg Platz on that sold stacks and stacks of tempting Isabel Marant. Oh it was hard to choose.

And then it got serious with a trip to the grim and harrowing Stasi Museum.

Worryingly I kept wanting to photograph the colour of the Stasi prison doors. They were a fantastic ghostly grey/blue...but would it be appropriate? Probably not.

Then onto the Checkpoint Charlie museum to see how humans were kept in a town as a prison, and how a lucky few managed to escape by squeezing themselves into petrol tanks and suitcases.

And then they knocked that wall down...

The Holocaust memorial, designed by architect Peter Eisenman and engineer Buro Happold, is a contemplative but active, dramatic but peaceful.  How incredible to have a memorial of this size and scope in the centre of Berlin, right next to the Reichstag.

And finally, food. We had a great night at Katz Orange where the food was great and how cool is this massive ping pong chandelier! Love.

Being told to WALK by the cute Ampelmann kind of cheers up a Zebra crossing in the rain.

Go go go to Berlin. And read this!
