Curtains Measuring

Measuring for curtains

Measuring for curtains is quick and easy. We strongly suggest you always use a metal tape measure and have your poles or tracks already installed.

Measuring for width

If measuring for curtains on a pole, measure the total distance between the two finials (the decorative cap or bulb on the ends of the pole). This is your width.

If measuring for curtains on a track, measure the complete distance from end to end of the track.

Measuring for curtain drop

For curtains on a pole, start measuring from the eye on your pole. For curtains on a track, begin measuring from the top of the track.

You have three options depending on where you want your curtain to end: either at the sill, below the sill or on the floor.  We recommend curtains to the floor for most spaces, but of course the choice is yours.

For floor-length curtains we recommend you measure to the floor plus 2 cm (1 inch) – but keep in mind that floors are often uneven, so measure to the floor on both sides of your track/pole and take the higher number.

For curtains to the sill, we recommend you measure to the sill minus 1 cm (0.5 inch).

For curtains below the sill, we recommend you measure the drop to 15-20 cm (6 – 8 inches) below the sill.

For Gathered (Rod Pocket) curtains there is no eye drop, so please provide us with the measurements from the top of the pole to your desired point (sill, below sill, floor).  Tab-top & Tie-top curtains are only suitable for poles, and not for tracks

Double check all measurements before placing an order.
